Sleepsonic Pillow

I recently got a couple of messages from my followers concerning headphones and sleeping. If you are like me, then you may find it difficult or impossible to sleep on your back. I have never had any luck sleeping on my back my whole life. This makes it very hard for me to wear headphones while lying on my side.

I ran across the website, sleep sonic while browsing the internet yesterday. Basically it's a pillow with built in headphones. I am thinking about buying this for use with isochronic tones. I will make sure to post my full review if I buy it.

Has anyone had experience with this pillow, or a similar product? Feel free to post your experiences or questions in the comments below.

Isochronic Track for Valentine's Day

I stumbled across a rather interesting isochronic track today while surfing the internet. According to the description, this 15 minute track uses several frequencies that stimulate those "special organs" on your body. So if you feel like experimenting tonight with your special valentines, why not give this a shot? It's an isochronic track, so no headphones are required. Just turn the volume up and let the magic happen!

Audio Equipment

Audio equipment is a big factor in having a successful binaural beat experience. A good quality headphone is required if you wish to have any results at all. Don't expect to put on your iPod earbuds and experience anything at all besides a nasty head ache.

The actual binaural beat that you hear is produced by your brain. Therefore, a super expensive pair of headphones is not required to hear these. What is important is that you are able to distinguish the direction of the sound. Two slightly different frequencies will be played on either side of your head to produce the wobbling sound of the binaural beat.

When you are looking for a pair of headphones to buy, there are a few things you should consider. The most important factor in your purchase should be how comfortable they are. Most binuaral tracks range from 30-60 minutes a piece. So find a headphone that won't bother you for extended periods of time. If you have  uncomfortable headphones, your brain will be distracted by the pain of wearing them. Therefore, your less likely to have any results.

The second factor in your purchase should be mobility. Lying down on your bed while listening to binaural beats is one of the best ways to see results. This means you will either need an mp3 player with your binaural tracks loaded on to it, or a long enough cord to plug in to your laptop or computer. Many electronic stores sell headphone jack extenders which can help out in this situation.

Some other features you want to look for are the weight of the headphones, noise canceling, wrap around headphones, and anything else that will interest you. None of this is required, but it definitely won't hurt your chances of a successful binaural beat experience.

I am currently using the Equation Audio RP-21 headphones for my binaural beat sessions. They are a very nice quality for the price. They can be seen pictured above.

Note - This post only applies to binaural beats. Isochronic beats do not require the use of headphones.

Isochronic Beats

So now that we've discussed binaural beats, it's time to talk about isochronic beats. As you know, binaural beats have two tones with a slightly different frequency. Isochronic beats consist of a single tone that is spaced out to create the "beat". The biggest difference between the two is that isochronic beats do not require the use of headphones. This is great news for a lot of people because it allows them to listen to the isochronic beats in situations where headphones wouldn't be possible.

Many people have had an easier time getting the results they wanted from isochronic beats compared to binaural beats. Since headphones are not required, this allows people to lie down in bed or meditate while listening to the beat. I have had great results from listening to isochronic beats while meditating or before I go to bed.

There are many different places to find isochronic beats, but most of them want to charge you a ridiculous amount for a single track. My personal favorite source for isochronic beats is Iso-tones.com. They provide a variety of tracks with different frequencies and no cost. I have had results from the "Void", "Sleep", "Nirvana", "14 Hz", "Lucid Dreaming", and "Chakra Balancing" tracks. These are completely free and available to download. There's nothing to lose, so take a look and find something that is interesting to you. Feel free to share you experiences in the comment section below if you try any.

Where to Find Binaural Beats?

Now that you know what binaural beats, I'm sure you're eager to listen to some for yourself. There are a variety of websites out there offering binaural beats. Prices range from very expensive, to free. Some include background music, and others are just the binaural beat itself. It all comes down to personal preference. Take your time, and find what works best for you.

Free Sources -

HealingBeats - My go to resource for everything relating to binaural beats. Plenty of free binaural beats can be found on the website, and the forums.

D.I.Y. Dharma  - Plenty of free binaural beats available to stream or download.

HealingBeats archive - This is an archive of a bunch of free binaural beats compiled from HealingBeats.

Sbagen  - An open source tool used to produce binaural beats.

Gnaural  - An easy to use tool used to produce binaural beats. There is also a java application of the program available on their website. This allows you to try it without downloading it.

Paid Sources -

Unexplainable - One of my personal favorites for paid binaural beats. The quality of the binaural beats and background music is very well produced. I've had much success with many of their tracks, and I still continue to use them today. They are a good source for the price.

Binaural-Beats - Affordable prices and good quality. Creators of the well known "digital drug" preset. Many have had amazing experiences with it. I've yet to have any luck trying it. It's still worth trying if you have the money.

Brain Sync  - Binaural beat programs with a focus on health and well being.

i-Doser - Another paid source for binaural beats. There is a lot of controversy over the claims i-Doser makes. The prices vary greatly from very cheap, to overly expensive. I've had mixed results from the "doses". It's worth taking a look at some of the cheaper doses.

What are Binaural Beats?

 History

Binaural beats were first discovered by the physicist Heinrich Wilhelm Dove in 1839. Heinrich discovered that when two tones with a slight variation in frequencies are played simultaneously in both ears, the human brain generates a "beat". When the tones are listened to individually, it will sound like one tone. Combining the two tones in both ears produces the typical "binaural beat" that we have become familiar with.

Dove's discovery did not spark much interest in the scientific community up until 1973 when Gerald Oster published "Auditory Beats in the Brain" in the Scientific American. Oster used binaural beats to further his research in neurological studies. Some of Oster's notable discoveries included the use of binaural beats to aid in medical research, and diagnosing medical issues in patients.

Benefits

The benefits of binaural beats is a controversial subject. Many people claim to have experienced significant changes through the use of binaural beats, and others have had little to no changes. There have been studies that have both supported, and debunked these claims. Many have also suggested that the placebo effect can explain many of these experiences. However, here is a brief list of the many benefits that have been claimed possible through binaural beats.

  • enhances or alters mood
  • aids in meditation
  • aids in sleeping
  • aids in dreaming/lucid dreaming
  • aids in OBE/astral projection/remote viewing
  • relieves stress
  • many more...

The only real way to find out if binaural beats works for you is to try it for yourself. There is no need to go out and spend money on an expensive mp3, or website. There are many free resources avaialable. In my next posting, I will list sources for free binaural beats, and generators, as well as many other helpful links. Thanks for reading, and stop by for more.
